Yes on Measure K

Yes on K Update

When Measure K passed in November 2006, our No. 1 Goal was to hire staffing with the additional revenue the new tax generated. We are very pleased to report that as of February 18, 2008, we have met that goal. We have filled three new fire captain positions, three new fire engineer positions, and a new 40-hour firefighter position. Click here to meet them.

With this new staffing, we are able to staff our current Station 2, at 444 Windsor River Road, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm seven days a week. This enables us to respond to calls on the west side of town much more rapidly.

At its April 2, 2008 meeting, the Windsor Town Council voted unanimously to approve the plans for our new Station 2, which will be built at 8600 Windsor Road. (Click here to see what it’s going to look like.) At present, the Town expects to go to bid in May 2008 and be ready to break ground in August. The station should be complete in the summer of 2009.

The Windsor Town Council has also approved purchase of a 75-foot “quint” ladder truck, which has been ordered from Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin and is scheduled for delivery in August 2008. Click here for weekly progress reports and photos of its construction and assembly.

There is still a great deal of work to be done—training new employees, training all employees in ladder truck operation, adjusting to the changes—but we are confident we now have in place the foundation upon which we will build the Windsor Fire Protection District of tomorrow.

Thank You

The staff of Windsor Fire Protection District want to thank everyone who campaigned for, made financial contributions to, and voted Yes on K. The people of Windsor—not the fire department—will benefit from the revenue Measure K will generate. We are delighted we will be able to address our urgent need for additional staffing, thereby significantly improving our ability to provide an increased level of service to our community.

We also thank the Town of Windsor for working with us to find solutions to our funding issues. The Town will be purchasing a new ladder truck and will be building our new west-side station in the immediate future, as well as funding other capital items as the needs arise.

We are already hard at work on putting the improvements in place. Check back often for progress reports.

Thank you again.

The Town of Windsor/Windsor Fire Agreement (pdf) provides updated information and facts about the proposed construction of a new fire station and purchase of a “Quint” ladder truck. To learn the history behind this agreement, read the CityGate Associates study.
