We have received a number of calls over the past few days in response to news reports concerning the termination of a Windsor Fire Protection District captain. We sincerely thank you for the support and good wishes expressed.

It is important that you know this: Everything at Windsor Fire is business as usual. Our engines are fully staffed and ready to respond immediately when our services are needed, 24/7. Our staff continues to work diligently at the business at hand: our service to you. We remain 100 percent committed to our mission.

Windsor Fire Protection District has three main priorities: Providing for the safety of our personnel, providing excellent service to those we serve, and maintaining the public trust. These principles guide every aspect of our operation.

While we understand that there is interest in details of the recent incident, the Fire District cannot, and will not, comment on this personnel issue. All parties will be accorded due process of law, and the District will abide by all of its legal obligations.

We deeply regret that the incident occurred. We especially regret that it is shifting attention from the many good things happening at the fire department: We recently hired three new engineer/firefighters and we have made conditional offers to three fire captain candidates, doubling our staffing as promised during the Measure K campaign. In partnership with the Town of Windsor, we have begun the processes that will result in a new fire station on the west side of town and a ladder truck that will enable us to adequately respond to any emergency that occurs in any of our three-story buildings.

This is a momentous time in our history. Please join us in celebrating the many positive things happening in the District. And please join me in honoring and acknowledging the many dedicated men and women who work hard every day to give you a fire department that you can rely upon and be proud of.
