John Nelson Appointed to Windsor Fire Protection District Board Windsor, CA - At a special meeting on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, the Board of Directors of the Windsor Fire Protection District voted unanimously to appoint Windsor resident John D. Nelson to fill a vacant directorship. Nelson, 48, one of two candidates who applied, has a long association with the District, having volunteered as its photographer for a number of years. "We are very pleased to have John on our Board," said Board President Pat McDowell. "He has a long history of active community service which, when combined with his professional experience, makes him ideally suited to the needs of the Fire District at this time in its development." Nelson, a 31-year Sonoma County resident, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sonoma State University. He has worked for Fireman's Fund Insurance since 1979 and currently holds the position of International Product Director. He has served on the Windsor Boys and Girls Club Board of Trustees, been a member of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce and the Santa Rosa Optimist Club, and is a past president of the Santa Rosa Junior College Neighborhood Association. He and his wife, Sue, are award-winning photographers. "I admire the District's past accomplishments," said Director Nelson, "and I would like to work to ensure that the District continues to provide our community with quality fire protection service." "However," he continued, "with all of their accomplishments, there are significant challenges ahead. I look forward to working with the other Directors to meet these challenges in creative and effective ways." Nelson was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Board member, Todd Fletcher. His term will run until the November 2004 election, at which time he may seek election to the Board. For more information contact:
