FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fire Department Participates in Annual Burn Foundation Relay
Windsor CA – An engine from Windsor Fire Protection District will
join engines from every other fire department in Sonoma and Marin
counties in a two-county, all-day rally on Friday, May 20 to raise
money for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. The 8th Annual North
Bay Firefighters Burn Relay starts at Healdsburg Fire Department,
where engines from both counties will assemble. Following a brief
contribution presentation, the parade of fire engines will begin a
journey south that will visit every fire department between
Healdsburg and Sausalito, collecting contributions at each stop.
Windsor Fire will be the second stop. The Windsor Professional
Firefighters Association will donate $250, and the Windsor Volunteer
Firefighters Association will donate $500.
The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation was founded in 1971, named for an
eight year old girl who died from burns suffered in a backyard
barbecue accident. The foundation works in partnership with
firefighters, educators, and burn care professionals to develop
innovative programs and services to both prevent burn injuries and
assist burn injury victims.
There are 1.25 million burn injuries each year in the United States.
In California each year, 10,000 people are burned severely enough to
require medical attention; 4,500 are children. Recognizing that
prevention education is essential to avoid the agony of burn
injuries, the Burn Foundation has produced a variety of innovative
prevention materials and programs that are distributed throughout
California and all over the world.
The Burn Foundation's survivor assistance programs are designed to
relieve emotional suffering, create opportunities for socializing,
and help build the skills necessary to cope in a society that highly
values physical appearance. For more information, go to

Windsor Fire Protection District is a combination paid/volunteer
fire department that serves 25 square miles of the Town of Windsor
and five square miles of surrounding unincorporated area, responding
to 1900 calls each year. For more information about Windsor Fire
