FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Keith Muelheim Named Windsor Firefighter of the Year
Windsor CA – Windsor resident Keith Muelheim, 21, was named
Firefighter of the Year at the Windsor Fire Protection District 34
annual awards dinner Saturday, May 21, 2005. The dinner was attended
by forty members of the department, their families, former fire
department chiefs, and special guests of the department.
“When considering the candidates for this award,” said Fire Chief
Ron Collier, “we consider the level of participation, teamwork,
enthusiasm, dependability; attitude, willingness to go the extra
mile, and commitment to fire service education.”
“As always,” he continued, “our decision was a tough one. We have
many dedicated volunteers. This year, however, our staff felt
Keith’s efforts warranted this honor. Since joining Windsor Fire in
April 2002, Keith has not only done all that we’ve required of him,
he has actively worked on furthering his training and knowledge of
the fire service.”
Muelheim received the “Most Dependable” award last year.
Several other awards were presented: The Milo Strawn Award for Most
Inspirational Firefighter to Brad Caldwell, 24; the Vic Pozzi Award
for Most Dependable Firefighter to Brandon Matthies, 21; the Phil
Williams Award for Community Service to Steve Mason, 49; and Jessica
Brucato, 20, was named Most Improved Firefighter. All are Windsor
residents. The Strawn Award is named for former Windsor Fire Chief
Milo Strawn; the Pozzi Award for Vic Pozzi, a volunteer with the
department since its founding in 1965.
Vic Pozzi received a special award from the Windsor Volunteer
Firefighters Association, recognizing his 40 years of service to the
department. Pozzi was a founding member of the department and is an
active member today, responding to hundreds of calls each year.
“It is impossible to overstate the value of our volunteers,” said
Battalion Chief Matt Gustafson. “This dinner is our most important
annual event because it gives us the chance to publicly acknowledge
their contributions and to thank them and their families for the
sacrifices they make.”
Windsor Fire Protection District is a combination paid/volunteer
fire department that responds to 1900 calls per year.
