Fire District Receives Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit
Grant
Windsor, CA – Windsor Fire Protection District (WFPD) has received a
$20,873 grant from the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians
through its Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund.
WFPD Fire Chief Ron Collier announced the majority of the funds have
been used to purchase additional rescue and extrication equipment
that will enable the District to effectively respond to
multi-casualty incidents (MCI), as well as training tools for paid
and volunteer firefighters on the topic. “With the increasing amount
of traffic on Hwy 101, including the big rig trucks and buses that
now routinely travel through Windsor, the potential of an accident
with many injured victims is great,” said Chief Collier. The grant
award is geared to extrication and rescue of trapped individuals and
up-to-date training videos and DVDs for firefighters.
“We are very appreciative of the community-mindedness of the Dry
Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians,” Collier said. “This grant
enables us to purchase much needed, life-saving equipment that we
could not ourselves purchase within out present budget constraints.”
WFPD is one of three local fire agencies to receive a grant from the
Fund. The monies are designated for vehicle/MCI and rescue equipment
and training funding; they cannot be used to pay for staffing.
WFPD is a combination paid/volunteer fire department serving 30,000
in 25 square miles of the Town of Windsor and 5 square miles of
surrounding unincorporated area. WFPD responded to nearly 1900 calls
for service in 2005.
