Brad Caldwell Named Firefighter of the Year
Windsor CA – Windsor resident Brad Caldwell, 24, was named Windsor
Fire Protection District 2005 Firefighter of the Year at the
department’s 35th annual awards dinner on March 18, 2006. The dinner
is held each year to recognize the contributions made by the
department’s volunteer firefighters and to honor the entire staff.
Approximately 80 people attended the event at the Odd Fellows Hall
and enjoyed a dinner prepared by Vineyard Kitchens of Windsor.
Caldwell is a native of South Africa who moved to Windsor in 1996.
He is a graduate of Windsor High School and the Santa Rosa Junior
College Fire Academy. He joined Windsor Fire as a volunteer in 2003
and is pursuing a full-time career in the fire service.
“Brad exemplifies what we value in a volunteer,” said Windsor Fire
Chief Ron Collier. “He is reliable, motivated, conscientious,
compassionate, works constantly at polishing his skills, and he has
great people skills. We are very fortunate to have him on our team.”
Volunteer Firefighter Vic Pozzi, 74, whose service with the
department has been continuous since its founding in 1965, was
presented with a watch in honor of his 40 years of service. “Vic
Pozzi is a true Windsor treasure,” Collier said. “Over the past 40
years, he has contributed thousands and thousands of hours. There
simply is no adequate way to reward his contribution. This watch is
a small token of our appreciation.”
Also recognized at the dinner were Gene May, 45, who received the
Vic Pozzi Award for Most Dependable Firefighter, Brandon Matthies,
22, the Milo Strawn Award for Most Inspirational Firefighter, and
Keith Muelheim, 22, who received the Phil Williams Award for
Community Service. The Pozzi and Strawn awards are named for
long-time volunteer Pozzi and former fire chief Milo Strawn.
Windsor Fire Protection District is a combination paid/volunteer
fire department that responds to nearly 1900 calls each year in
providing service to 30,000 people in a 30 square mile area.
