FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Windsor Fire Department on Facebook and Twitter
Windsor CA –Windsor Fire Protection District has joined the ranks of
many fire departments across the country who are using social
networking sites—in this case Facebook and Twitter—to deliver
information to their communities. WFPD can be found on Facebook as
“Windsor Fire Protection District” and on Twitter as “WindsorFire.”
“It just plain makes good sense to use these tools that let us
instantaneously communicate information to thousands of people,”
said Windsor Fire Marshall Matt Gustafson.
WFPD will use the networks for everything from fire- and life-safety
messages to product recall information to Fire District news to
alerting people of major incidents that are affecting traffic and/or
hazardous conditions and areas to avoid.
“We also see its potential as a valuable tool should there be a
major disaster,” Gustafson said. Even if the power is out and
computers don’t work, today’s smart phones can access the internet,
including these sites. Many people already have their phones set up
to receive both Facebook and Twitter updates automatically.”
Other fire departments in the area using Facebook and/or Twitter
include Santa Rosa, Forestville, and Geyserville.
Windsor Fire Protection District is an independent fire district
that serves all but one square mile of the Town of Windsor and 25
square miles of surrounding unincorporated rural areas. Founded in
1985 the District serves 30,000 people, responding to 2000 calls per
year from two staffed stations. For more information, visit
