  Plan Submittal/Construction Inspection Process

Windsor Fire’s Prevention Department is involved in all three phases of the building process and generally performs reviews of the concept plan (at time of submission to Town of Windsor Planning Department) and the preconstruction building, fire alarm, fire sprinkler and other building-phase plans; as well as conducting inspections during the construction phase, including the fire “final.”

PLAN SUBMISSION/REVIEW
Before submitting plans, confirm that your project is within Windsor Fire Protection District boundaries (see attached map (pdf)). We strongly suggest that you review the WFPD Plan Review Guidelines (pdf) and ensure your plans meet the guidelines prior to submission, so that we may process your project as quickly as possible. See links below for specific plan-type document requirements.

Submit drawings (at least two sets) to the Windsor Fire Protection District at 8200 Old Redwood Highway, Windsor. Payment of $110 must accompany each plan submitted. A single submission that encompasses multiple projects or multiple improvements or other multiple items requires $110 for each component. If more than one hour is required to review the plan(s), an invoice will be issued for the remaining amount due.

Either the fire marshal or a contracted expert will review the plans and comment in writing. Plans that do not comply with Windsor Fire and/or code requirements must be corrected and resubmitted. Each resubmission will require payment of an additional one-hour minimum fee of $110.00.

INSPECTIONS
Inspections are charged at the rate of $110 per hour, with a one-hour minimum. Follow-up inspections made necessary by malfunction, code non-compliance, and/or vendors who are not prepared or who are not there at scheduled inspection time will be charged at the rate of $110 per hour for each necessary reinspection.

Scheduling an Inspection:
WFPD requires that inspections be scheduled 24 hours in advance by calling (707) 838-1170. Please note: WFPD cannot always guarantee next-day inspections. Applicants are encouraged to schedule appointments several days in advance whenever possible.
