Windsor Fire Protection District Facts
January 2011Founded in 1965 as the Windsor
Volunteer Fire Department, Windsor Fire Protection
District (est. 1986) is a combination paid/volunteer
fire department that responds to 2000-plus calls per
year. WFPD also provides extensive public education and
fire/life safety services.
POPULATION/AREA SERVED: 31,000 people in 30
square miles (5 square miles of Town of Windsor; 25
square miles surrounding unincorporated area)
DAILY STAFFING: Two fire captains and two fire
engineers, 24-hour shifts; two 40-hours-per-week
firefighters; and two residential firefighters
1800-0600.
NUMBER OF STATIONS: Two, staffed 24/7
VOLUNTEER (On-Call) SUPPRESSION PERSONNEL:
Eleven —2 battalion chiefs, 1 fire engineer, 8
firefighters; 6 residential firefighters
ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF: Four—Fire Chief,
Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal, Administrative Assistant,
Financial Assistant
APPRATUS: One 75” quint, two Type 1 engines,
one Type 1/Water Tender, two Type 3 engines, one State
of California OES water tender, one light rescue
OPERATING BUDGET: $2.7 million for FY
2010/2011*
FUNDING SOURCES: Three cents of every $100 of
ad valorem property tax collected within District and
from Special Taxes assessed to each parcel within
District, plus miscellaneous income that amounts to less
than one percent of the District’s annual revenue
